The university has four faculties which offer 400 diverse undergraduate and postgraduate subjects including engineering and sustainability. Water Software Systems (WSS) is a multidisciplinary research group in the university and provides consultancy and research services to organisations in the area of water distribution systems and wastewater treatment and reuse.

Easton Water Consulting

Easton Water Consulting (EWC) is a strategic and technical consultancy specialising in the sustainable management of water resources, with experience in many countries and a range of industry sectors including food & beverages, agriculture, water supply and mining. EWC has expertise in communicating on technical issues for a non-expert audience.

Fundacio CTM Centre Tecnològic

The Project Coordinator, the Fundacio CTM Centre Tecnològic (CTM) is a non-profit private technological centre. CTM aims to efficiently contribute to improving the competitiveness and the technological development of companies by providing specialised services and carrying out R&D and Innovation projects. Its activities cover sectors such as Environmental Technology, Materials Technology and Energy. CTMs Environmental Technology Department (ATA) aims at contributing to sustainable industrial and community development through the enhancement of environmental quality.

Iren Acqua Gas

Iren Acqua Gas is the Iren Group company dealing with management of public services in terms of Integrated Water Services and Distribution of Natural Gas. With more than 2 million inhabitants served, 13900 km of water supplying network, more than 8000 Km of sewer network, more than 1800 km of gas distribution network, about 800 waste water treatment plants Iren Group is one of the main national operators. In the context of merger processes, Iren Group exercises functional coordination of the water business for all the involved companies.


KWR is the Dutch research institute for the drinking water sector, their current shareholders. Unique in the world, this collaboration of the Dutch water supply companies has resulted in a powerful knowledge base and an extensive collective memory (> 60 years) for the drinking water sector. KWR develops and unlocks relevant knowledge about the small water cycle: from water systems to water technology and (clean) water quality. The objective is to provide the water sector with the means to identify and effectively meet the challenges of our time: from climate change to the increasing amount of contaminants, and the growing pressure to use space intensively and for multiple purposes. KWR works together with other leading research institutes and partners inside and outside the Netherlands.


NTUA is the leading Engineering School in Greece. It participates in BlueSCities through the Laboratory of Hydrology and Water Resources Management of the School of Civil Engineering, which has extensive expertise in water resource analysis and urban water systems management with an active role at both national and European levels. Of particular interest to the Laboratory is the domain of Hydroinformatics and the modelling of the complete socio-technical urban water system. The Laboratory is a member of several Academic and Industrial networks, including EurAqua and WSSTP and is a member of Watershare. NTUA’s involvement in the project is coordinated by Dr Christos Makropoulos.

Strane Innovation

Strane Innovation is a startup incubator focusing on the sectors of sustainable development (energy, water, transport, environment, resources, smart systems). In BlueSCities, Strane is in charge of addressing all the business aspects involved by the integration of the sectors of water and waste in smart city sectors (energy, transport, ICT).

The Joint Research Centre

As the Commission's in-house science service, the Joint Research Centre's mission is to provide EU policies with independent, evidence-based scientific and technical support throughout the whole policy cycle. Working in close cooperation with policy Directorates-General, the JRC addresses key societal challenges while stimulating innovation through developing new methods, tools and standards, and sharing its know-how with the Member States, the scientific community and international partners.


Ticass is a non-profit making consortium which includes public research bodies (Departments of the University of Genoa), SME's and large Companies. It is the managing body of the regional research and innovation hub "Energy and Environment" supported by the ERDF in the Liguria Region (Italy). Its main operative areas are related to the environment, sustainable products and processes, support to regional stakeholders and focus on resources, materials, Blue energy, ICT and process control, training, support and consulting, water, energy, waste and remediation, REACH Regulation.

University of Istanbul

Istanbul University, which is the oldest university in Turkey, was founded in 1453. The University currently has 22 faculties on five campuses, the main campus being in Beyazıt Square in Istanbul, which was known was the Forum Tauri in the Roman period. It has more than 2000 faculty members, 4000 research assistants, 60,000 undergraduate and 8,000 graduate students.
